See our Camp Photos HERE

Backwoods Music Studio is very pleased to announce our new Summer Guitar "JAM" Camps 2006. These week long day camps will allow budding guitar students the opportunity to play in an exciting band ensemble environment and will help them on the road to perfoming and improvising with their friends.

Each week long experience will culminate in a Friday afternoon concert for family and friends. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to hear special guest musicians and play in a full band setting (guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards) with the BMS house band "Hooliganism". Details below.

Register NOW! Space is limited to 25 students and our roster is already filling up.

AND

SOUTHERN ROCK GUITAR JAM CAMP
- AUGUST 14 through AUGUST 18

The camps will be held for 5 days starting Monday and will run through Friday afternoon. Drop off for the camp will begin at 8:30am with classes starting at 9am each day. Pick-up will be at 1pm each day (except Friday's performance).

Enrollment will be limited to 25 students (ages 10 to 16), and students will be randomly placed into 4 or 5 groups named after famous Rock guitarists (Clapton, Page, Hendrix, Young, etc). Each group will have a set of songs to work on, as well as a choice of their own.

Classes will alternate through the morning between class guitar instruction and ensemble playing. Mid-week we hope to be able to offer a Master Class from a special guest guitarist.

Each day will end promptly at 1pm with final pick-up at 1:15pm. We'll do everything we can to encourage car-pooling and parent communication throughout the week.

Friday afternoon we plan a full performance from each student group. Parents and friends will be encouraged to bring their picnic and lawn chairs for this outside event (inside if the weather doesn't cooperate).

The Guitar Jam Camp classes are for those students with a solid base knowledge of beginning guitar skills as well as some early familiarity with barre chords and scale patterns. Class topics will include:barre chord shapes and 5th and 6th string roots, Power chords, pentatonic scales and solo patterns, as well as song styling. Popular Rock, Pop, Alternative, and other genre songs will be used as examples and incorporated into the lessons, and students will be encouraged to find and select songs for their group for the end of the week performance.

Please Note: These camps are NOT for beginning guitarists. Students should have completed our Beginning 2 group lessons, learned the equivalent skills during private lessons, or already have the required base skills.

Electric or Acoustic/Electric guitars are highly preferred, although straight acoustic guitars with a sound hole pick-up should work fine. Additionally, students will be encouraged to bring a small portable size practice amplifier (15 to 50 watts) to the camp. Some amps will be provided but students may have to wait their turn for availability.

Good quality instruments are highly encouraged - Please don't send a student with a poor quality instrument - this only breeds frustration, embarrassment, and will deter progress! Contact us if you have any questions on the student equipment requirements.

Please note that we have agreements with several local high-quality guitar stores to offer Backwoods student discounts on the purchase of guitar packages (acoustic or electric guitars, amp, straps, cords, etc). Please contact us for additional details.
