DON'T KNOW WHY - This is a Pat Metheny arrangement of a Nora Jones classic. Done on my 1987 Martin HD-18 LE ('Ellie') through my 1/2 watt studio Bugera amp, then via mic into Garage Band.
SONG OF THE WIND - This is my take on "Song of the Wind" from Santana's Caravanseria Album. I started trying to play along to this vinyl back in the seventies and still work on the subtleties of the solo to this day.
Played on my Fender 50th Anniversary American Deluxe Stratocaster - 'Addy' through a '73 Fender Twin Silver Face.
LITTLE MARTHA - I pulled out "Guildie", my old acoustic and recorded this version of Little Martha by Duane Allman. This acoustic instrumental is the only Allman Brothers song written entirely by Duane. He claimed this came to him in a dream in which Jimi Hendrix showed him how to play the song using a sink faucet in a hotel room.
I first learned this in standard tuning by ear back in about '74. It wasn't until I started teaching it several years later that I relearned it in the correct open E tuning. Sometimes age brings wisdom. |
WES COAST BLUES - On my son's Hagstrom HL-550 Swedish made jazz hollow body through a 10 watt studio Bugera amp. Grew up with that Wes Montgomery California style cool on constant play with the huge turntable/stereo cabinet in our front room. I use this play-along with my students to demonstrate the challenge of improvising a soloing over a set chord progression. |
My take on Jeff Beck's "CAUSE WE ENDED AS LOVERS". I can only hope to be able to pull half the emotion out of my strat as Jeff does. Again, a backing track and the solo is me. Couple of little glitches and pops, and there's no post production, but not a bad take. I use this to demonstrate dynamics, lyrical legato notes, and varying solo styles. |
