I have been doing lessons with Rob for about three and a half years now, from the ages of twelve to fifteen. In that time I have become a player that I am proud of but also want to keep improving with him. With Rob I have developed a huge passion for guitar and love it every single day. He allows me to learn what I want but also finds ways to help me improve in skills that I am less strong in. If you have a child who genuinely has a passion for music and guitar I would highly recommend Backwood Music Studio

I am a new (guitar) student and Rob has been great. I gave him a list of songs I’d like to play and he has patiently taught me the verse chorus and bridge for each. He shows me how to play the song while displaying the chords and listening on the computer. He plays it slowly at first and speeds it up as I improve. He has texted and emailed me the chord sheets so I can print them off at home. It’s been a great learning experience!

Dear Rob,
I hope this letter finds you well! I apologize for how long it has taken me to write this, it is way past due. The other day I was playing guitar and was struck with a sudden urge to finally sit down and write you to tell you how much of an impact you have had on my life. I would not be the man I am today if I did not pick up the guitar and I would be NO WHERE near the player if I never had lessons with you. The guitar has been one of the most consistent things that has brought me so much joy in life. Thank you for being such a great teacher and putting me on the right track with learning the guitar.
Along with guitar you taught me so much about great music. Whenever I hear a Steely Dan song come on to this day I immediately think of you and the lessons we had learning some of their songs. I always remember how much you loved them and respected them as musicians. I enjoy reminiscing on our lessons while listening to the guitar parts of classic rock songs like “Hotel California”, “Crazy Train”, and “Dream On” to name a few. My music taste has only grown over the years and I find myself consistently wishing I had known these songs/artists back then so we could have enjoyed them in some of our lessons together. I truly want to thank you for being such a great teacher. I also want to apologize for stealing some of your sheets on the Backwoods music website for some of the lessons that I have taught over the past couple years. I have, however, always given you credit! I think a lot of the confidence I had to start teaching people the guitar came from the lessons I took with you. Knowing that I learned proper technique made me sure of the things I was teaching other people. It also gave me reference of how learning songs is a great and fun way to learn the guitar. I have really enjoyed the lessons I have taught over the years so thank you for your help in that!
I recently bought a new electric (American Telecaster) and have been really loving it. Currently I have a Taylor Acoustic, Gibson Studio LP, and my new Tele. I think I have the gear bug right now as I have also been adding some pedals to my collection. I am really enjoying the sounds I’m getting out of all of my gear and I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this excited about playing guitar. Having a job where I work from home for the past couple years has been one of the biggest blessings in my guitar life. I work with my guitar on a stand next to my desk. Whenever I have a free moment I will rip through a few scales or noodle across the fret board. It is the best.
All of this being said, I really just wanted to write you to thank you for being such an amazing guitar teacher. Thank you for guiding me through the proper ways to learn and play as well as introducing me to some great music. I would not have the life that I have today without the guitar and I owe a lot of my ability to your guidance during the years we had lessons together. Thank you so much. I wish you and your family all the best!!!
Sincerely,
Alex P.
